The 3-2-1 Backup Rule and the Five Protective Measures of an ASUSTOR NAS

This issue tackles the five ways an ASUSTOR NAS helps you keep your data secure. Follow the five necessary protective measures listed below for even greater data security on an ASUSTOR NAS.
1. Keep ADM up to date at all times ensure as much data security as possible.
2. Disable the default admin account and use a strong password.
3. Turn on ADM Defender and the automatic blacklist. This setting automatically blocks a client IP address when repeated login failures exceed the specified number of times in a period of time, mitigating the risk of brute-force attacks.
4. If SSH and SFTP are not needed, then they should be disabled and only enabled when needed.
5. Avoid use of default ports 8000 and 8001. Changing the port numbers frustrates the ability to connect to your NAS by unauthorized third parties.

Getting into a habit of regular backups is among the most foolproof methods of data protection, allowing you to quickly restore data in the event of loss, corruption or infection. The 321 Backup Principle is a great start for most people. It consists of making at least 3 backups of data, storing the backups in 2 different types of storage media and at least 1 copy in an alternate location. On an ASUSTOR NAS, there are also a variety of backup features to choose from, including, but not limited to backing up to public cloud providers, MyArchive, secondary NAS, or an external storage device, ensuring that all data can be easily backed up.
